Taking Part
JANET Talk
JANET Talk is currently in the trial phase of development. It is based on a software client that enables multipoint collaboration using tools such as:
- Voice
- Video
- Shared Whiteboard
- Application Sharing
- File Sharing
- Instant Messaging
- PSTN breakout, provided by JANET(UK’s) subcontractor Verizon Business
- IP and PSTN Conference Bridging facilities to enable multiple organisations to collaborate together from both the JANET Talk and PSTN environment
- SIP support to enable SIP based multi-operating systems clients and SIP hard-phones to use JANET Talk
- On-line pre-pay and traditional post pay billing for PSTN calls
- Central support for users that have private IP addresses in the form of Session Border Controllers
Users have the ability to communicate using a PC based desktop client and collaborate using the power and reach of the JANET Network.
JANET Talk Trial
JANET Talk has been rolled out on a trial basis to determine that user requirements are met; to validate the initial service model that has been defined and to understand how this powerful tool can play a part in the IT strategies of JANET connected sites.
The Trial was launched in August 2008. It comprises of over 100 JANET connected organisations, deploying a maximum of 100 JANET Talk clients each
Taking Part
The initial call for participation resulted in over 100 applications. We have now launched a 2nd call for participation running until the end of May 2009. Details of the call and how to apply can be found here.
